INTERNSHIPS

Internships are available for those interested in learning more about working with people with disabilities, animals, and the equine-assisted activities and therapies field.

Sprout offers internship opportunities throughout the year in support of candidates who are enrolled or plan to enroll in a degree program at a college or university. Typically, internships are designed to fulfill coursework requirements and are unpaid by Sprout. Because of the professionalism and diversity of our staff and services, we are able to meet the needs of students with a wide range of interests. Sprout works to customize internship experiences to the needs of the student – matching those experiences with the needs of our organization. Internship options include (but are not limited to.)

Program Development Working closely with Sprout staff, interns will create new and update past unmounted curriculum for programs that impact students, volunteers and the Sprout community at large (parents/siblings). Through this process interns learn how to write individual and group goals, evaluate participant progress, and create lesson plans.

Program Efficacy and Research Interns will discuss and assist staff members in evaluating methods of research and collection for data on the benefits of therapeutic riding and equine assisted activities.

Equine Management Opportunities to learn hands-on skills relating to equine management including daily care, health care and first aid, feeding practices and handling. Also, farm management techniques including manure handling and effective pasture utilization.

Non-Profit Development Interns will gain exposure to different methods of development in the non-profit sector including annual fund drive, planned giving, special events, grant writing, corporate campaigns. Gain an understanding of database management, finance, development, program operation, and strategic planning.

Explore website design and management, database procedures and management, and how distance learning can extend the reach of a non-profit with diverse needs.

Photography/Videography Interns will have the opportunity to photograph (still and video) horses, participants and volunteers in a variety of capacities, assist editing and producing educational and informational videos and identify and develop story ideas for PR and marketing purposes. In addition, interns will assist in managing, updating and archiving past Sprout media and photography.
