Mike Pratt (Chairman of the Board)
Mike is a graduate of Slippery Rock University and has been a resident of Northern Virginia for 20 years. He has two kids, Kaelin (University of Alabama) and Jake (Briar Woods High School). Mike was introduced to Sprout in 2012 year when he was approached by a member of the Sprout BOD about volunteering and working with a young man named, Antonio. After establishing a relationship and friendship with Antonio and his family, Mike’s life was changed forever. It didn’t take him long to realize there was something magical about Sprout. Mike is also co-chair for the annual, “Scott A. Vivian Memorial Golf Tournament, 19 Holes for Hospice” benefiting Capital Caring. Volunteering at Sprout is more than getting involved, it is more than making a difference, but rather, it is about inclusiveness. The inclusiveness of Sprout has also allowed many teens from the community to shine. The teen volunteers from our local high schools devote hundreds of hours each year to helping at Sprout. Seeing these kids devote the time and energy to helping those who participate in the programs at Sprout speaks volumes of our community. Every achievement at Sprout is success.

Diana Newmiller (Board Member)
Diana was born and raised locally in Fairfax, VA. After years of begging she received her first horse at age ten and had a successful show career until leaving to attend West Virginia University where she got a Masters Degree in Exercise Physiology. Diana works for the federal government as a health and fitness specialist and after raising 3 kids decided it was time to get back into the hobby she loved. She bought Pacman AKA Pick Up Man in 2007 and they enjoyed lazy trail rides and trail competitions for the last 7 years. Diana joined the Sprout family in Spring 2012 initially to help organize a 5K run to raise funds for Sprout and next thing she knew she was horse leading and side walking students as well – that’s what we call “the magic of Sprout”. In the fall of 2013 Sprout was in need of a sturdy, safe horse so Diana loaned her trusted Pacman to Sprout and after a few short months it’s apparent that Pac has found a new calling in life. Diana joined the Board in November of 2013 to help Sprout grow to its full potential, achieve goals and support the mission and vision of Sprout. Sprout provides her the opportunity to realize her own personal goal in life “to do things that fill her soul more than her wallet”.

She then joined the Board of Directors in December 2014 and is dedicated to promoting and sharing the mission of Sprout within with the Northern Virginia community. Sprout makes the “impossible”, possible. The students at Sprout bring her much joy and she loves seeing the students improve every week in their lessons.
